Canada’s Caregiver Pilot Programs: Here is What You Need To Know!
As a caregiver aspiring to immigrate for employment or permanent residency in Canada, you have the option to select from the recently introduced caregiver programs by the Canadian government. Families in Canada are allowed to hire foreign caregivers under the TFWP (temporary foreign worker program). An applicant must submit temporary work permit application in Halifax to get a visa. The introduction of these new programs is aimed at enabling aspiring immigrants working as caregivers in Canada to qualify for PR.
Old
caregiver programs in Canada
Foreign workers were unable to get easy access to PR application through the former programs. It is why Canadian government decided to replace those programs with the new ones.
· Child Care Program
· The Caring for People with High Medical Needs
· Live-in Caregiver
· Interim Roadside Caretaker Program
Limitations
for caregivers –
It was the limitation that forced Canadian government to bring changes in the caregiver programs. The pilot program was employer-specific, that is, an LMIA was mandatory. Foreign workers had to work for the same employer. To change, the caregiver had to apply for another work permit. On the other hand, the caregivers were not permitted to bring their family members. Family members were allowed to visit when the caregiver had applied for PR.
Changes in
new caregiver programs
Like previous, submitting temporary work permit application in Halifax, Canada is mandatory. Now an applicant can change their employer without applying for a new work permit. However, these caregiver programs are still employer-driven, that is, temporary foreign caregivers still need Canadian employers to hire them. Moreover, the profession has now become occupation-specific. Under these new caregiver programs, the primary applicant can accompany his or her family members to Canada. Subsequently, they can be included in the application for permanent residence while residing in Canada.
